AI Assistant
Last Updated: July 5, 2026
Overview
The AI Assistant is currently in a limited beta and is disabled by default. Contact [email protected] to have it enabled for your workspace.
The AI Assistant lets you ask questions about your CMDB in plain English. Get intelligent answers, remediation plans, and insights without writing complex queries.
How to Use
- Go to AI Chat in the left sidebar.
- Type your question in natural language.
- The AI analyzes your CMDB and answers.
- Ask follow-up questions if you need more detail.
Example Questions
Finding Issues
- "Which servers haven't been updated in 6 months?"
- "Show me all orphaned CIs in production"
- "What applications are missing owners?"
- "Find CIs with poor health scores"
Impact Analysis
- "What would happen if PROD-DB-01 failed?"
- "Which services depend on server XYZ?"
- "Show me all critical CIs with low health"
Remediation Plans
- "Give me a plan to improve health from 65% to 80%"
- "How do I fix orphaned CIs?"
- "What's the fastest way to improve my CMDB health?"
CSDM Compliance
- "Which services aren't CSDM compliant?"
- "Show me invalid relationships"
- "How do I model this service correctly?"
Be specific in your questions. Include environment (prod/staging/dev) and CI classes for better results.
Actions Require Your Confirmation
The assistant can prepare actions that have consequences. For example, it can schedule a ServiceNow sync or open a ServiceNow incident. But the assistant never runs these actions on its own. When you ask for one of these actions, the assistant shows a confirmation card. The action runs only after you click Confirm. You can use each confirmation one time only, and it expires after a few minutes. If you do not click the card, it lapses.

AI Providers
cmdbx supports multiple AI providers:
- Anthropic (Claude) - Default, best for complex reasoning
- Google (Gemini) - Good for data analysis
- OpenAI (GPT-4) - General purpose
Configure the provider for each tenant in Settings > AI Analysis.
Usage Limits
cmdbx tracks and limits AI usage by tier:
- Professional: Included for smaller teams getting started
- Business: Expanded monthly usage for day-to-day operational analysis
- Enterprise: Sized for heavier organizational usage
- MSP: Scoped commercially for multi-customer operating models
Privacy & Security
- cmdbx isolates queries by tenant.
- cmdbx does not share data between tenants.
- cmdbx does not use CMDB data to train AI models.
- You can delete conversations.
Best Practices
-
Be specific - Include CI names, classes, environments
-
Ask follow-ups - Refine answers with additional questions
-
Use for discovery - Find patterns that you did not know about
-
Verify results - The AI is helpful, but check critical decisions again
-
Do not depend on the AI only - Use it as a guide
-
Do not share sensitive data - Do not put PII or credentials in questions
