Overview

This guide shows the steps for your first login to cmdbx. It starts with the welcome email and ends at the dashboard.

Before You Begin

cmdbx uses a guided onboarding process. You must have these three items:

  1. Welcome email from your organization's cmdbx admin
  2. Secure one-time link to set up your account
  3. Your organization's subdomain (for example, acme.cmdbx.com)

The welcome link expires after 7 days. You can use it one time only. If your link expired, ask your admin to send a new invitation.

Step 1: Click Your Welcome Link

  1. Open the welcome email from [email protected]
  2. Click the "Set Up Your Account" button
  3. cmdbx sends you to the sign-in page (Supabase authentication)

cmdbx uses Supabase authentication. You can sign in with a password or request a magic link.

Step 2: Choose Your Sign-In Method

On the cmdbx sign-in page:

  1. Make sure your email is correct
  2. Choose one option:
    • Magic link (recommended): click Send Magic Link and check your email
    • Password: create a password and sign in

Step 3: Complete Your Profile

After you create your account:

  1. Add your name (first name and last name)
  2. Add a profile photo (optional)
  3. Click "Continue"

Step 4: Access Your Tenant

cmdbx sends you to your organization's instance:

https://[your-company].cmdbx.com/dashboard

If you have access to more than one organization, a tenant selector shows. Select the correct organization.

Step 5: ServiceNow Connection (Admin Only)

If you are the first user or an admin, the onboarding wizard can show. It asks you to connect ServiceNow.

If you are not an admin, skip this step. Your admin configures the ServiceNow connection.

For admins, the onboarding wizard shows these steps:

  1. ServiceNow instance URL (for example, https://dev12345.service-now.com)
  2. Read-only credentials (username and password)
  3. Connection test to make sure the access works
  4. Initial data sync (5-30 minutes, based on CMDB size)

For full instructions, see the Connect ServiceNow guide.

Step 6: Explore the Dashboard

After you log in, cmdbx shows the Health Dashboard. You see this content:

Overall Health Score

A large number (0-100) shows the health of your CMDB. cmdbx uses these colors:

  • Green (90-100): Excellent
  • Blue (75-89): Good
  • Yellow (50-74): Fair
  • Orange (25-49): Poor
  • Red (0-24): Critical

Key Metrics

Four KPI cards show these values:

  • Total CIs: Configuration items in your CMDB
  • Total Relationships: Connections between CIs
  • Stale CIs: Items that had no update in 90 or more days
  • Orphan CIs: Items that have no critical relationships

  • Large CMDBs (more than 10,000 CIs): 20-30 minutes

A: The main navigation is on the left sidebar. The key sections are:

  • Dashboard: Health overview (you are here)

  • Blast Radius: Impact simulator
  • CSDM Workbench: Service modeler
  • CI Health Workspace: Browse all CIs
  • AI Chat: Natural language queries

A: Click your profile icon (top-right). Select Account Settings, then Security, then Change Password. You can also use the password reset option on the sign-in page.

Q: I have access to more than one tenant. How do I switch?

A: Click your profile icon. Select Switch Organization, then select the tenant that you want.

Q: What must I do first?

A: We recommend these four steps:

  1. Review your overall health score on the dashboard.
